A new interdisciplinary photography/music show, a collaborative piece with Emra Islek. This installation/performance was delayed from its March 2020 premiere to now, and it's the first time I've ever done anything like this - a combination of photos, video projections, performance art.
Will be doing a solo saxophone/piano/vocal set with visuals - very different from my band concerts.
This is an outgrowth of my song cycle Comfort Girl (full album coming in 2024),
Hope you will come check it out and join us on this adventure!

"I photographed ’The Comfort Girl’*
Photographer Emrâ Islek (http://emraislek.com/) and composer/saxophonist/singer Stephanie Chou create an interdisciplinary zone, synthesizing photography, video, and live musical performances of Chou’s original ‘Comfort Girl’ music that was commissioned by the American Composers Forum. Artistically they aim for a unique approach to highlight and honour these young women’s* incandescent courage and invincible spirit to survive.
* “comfort girls’ were women and girls who were kidnapped or coerced into “comfort stations” for sexual slavery before and during WWII by the Imperial Japanese Army. Many women died or committed suicide due to brutal mistreatment and sustained physical and emotional distress.
Note: the photographs are not historical/archival photographs of the women - this is not a documentary piece
